Bonanza day

I texted Cathy this afternoon, "I'm driving to the mailbox. Can I pick you up?" How about that for old ladies! Actually, I can't manage walking the distance yet, but maybe next year. What a haul I had. My bulbs arrived!

I had to turn on the furnace last night; summer is leaving. Mandevilla leaves are falling fast; the plants look so forlorn.

Here are the two that grew together. The pink actually made a turn around the black frame of the white's pot and has pink blossoms there. The white has arched over the pink, and will bloom there soon.

I spent the afternoon clearing the pots out front. My sister is coming tomorrow to help me plant bulbs, weather permitting.

In one of the pots I found a couple of acorns, secreted, no doubt, by a squirrel or chipmunk. I know what those sprouts look like; I dealt with hundreds of them at the old house. I think I'll nurture these, if they come up, and find a place to plant them.

I spent the morning locating a shipment, and it's tracking number. I bought a new observation perch for the cat. He is using one that is ten or more years old, and also used by Ryon Kitty before (and after) the arrival of Toby.

That perch has one of the clawing posts shredded. I'm sure Toby has no problem with carpet tufts floating across the living room floor, but I do.

This perch is a few inches taller than the current perch. I selected it because the upper platform is supported by more than one pole. In all the videos I watched featuring one pole support at the top, mere kittens swayed as if in a strong breeze.

The tracking number said it's out for delivery today! My aunt's fanny. It is Saturday and after five in the afternoon. No UPS driver has ever attempted to find my address on a Saturday.

A thousand apologies! At my door when I went to make supper:

    1. You may not believe the amount of money people are willing to pay, or all the guerrilla set-ups are imagined for cats.

    2. I would believe it, and I wouldn't, but at least I spent a while enjoying cat pictures such as https://www.flickr.com/photos/edsuom/12957917753/ (looks very much like our own cat).

  2. Hooray for the arrival of bulbs (and someone to help you plant them).
Jazz positively likes bits of his scratching post wafting in the breeze. I do not.

    1. My sister and I talked about that, once. I've just begun to try to accustom Toby to a harness, in order to take him out.

  4. ROFL here... made a liar out of you!! Does it have to be put together with nails?? I asked Robert if he wanted to buy a perch for Ruby and he said NO!!! LOL So today, the little stinker paces on the deck railing until she gets up enough nerve to leap the 8+ feet to the edge of the roof. I watched her with my jaw hung down -- she hung by her claws on the edge of the rain gutter and then pulled herself up onto the roof. Once on the roof, she grabbed at something in the gutter, pulled it out and began to play with it as though it were alive -- most likely a lizard sunning itself peacefully in the gutter. We had to get a step stool to help her down. Little nitwit can get up there but is afraid to get down all by herself. Good luck with the Mandevillas... they're so beautiful. I do hope they survive the winter.

    1. I won't try to over winter them; I'll replace them late spring.

    1. Well, this cat's castle. They build them to go along walls, up and down, way stations, rest areas, refueling. People can be cockoo.

  6. Toby is surely a happy kitty. I love it when UPS or even USPS leaves me a package. It's almost as good as a visit from Santa.

  7. Someone planted an acorn in my tomato tub. I transplanted it into a fresh pot.

  8. Toby has a wonderful life in your home.

  9. From the tiny acorn, the mighty oak tree grows. I wish you luck with those, I love oak trees.
The new perch is fabulous :)

  10. Toby will love his new perch especially if it is in front of a window. We recently got a new tall one for our two cats and they love it even more than I thought they would. The only thing is they fight over the top perch! Do you have someone that can help you put it together? Ours didn't require any tools to put together but it was a bit of a handful getting it done.

  11. I'm lucky and my dd Alice planted my bulbs for me last Thursday. We'll see what happens next spring. They are all daffodils. Tomorrow is the ninth birthday of my youngest grandson and with his Mom's advice, I bought him a set of drums! (I hope she does not regret it.) They were delivered today. I'll let his parents do the 'some assembly required". Hope your kitty appreciates your kindness to him!

  12. That observation post looks cool! I've found with tracking packages they are pretty accurate when the stuff is going to be delivered. Almost scary how accurate, LOL. And here at least they take a picture of where the package is dropped off at your place and send it by text/email within minutes of making the delivery. Sounds like you got some fun ahead planting your bulbs! Enjoy!

  13. How far is the mailbox? Sounds like a real faff to have to climb in the car to collect your post. Picking up old ladies on the way sounds like a good recipe for a road trip... not of the Thelma and Louise type obviously!

    1. This is the perfect neighbor to have acquired. We may have our own T&L adventures some day.

  14. You caused me to look over my shoulder at our cat tree, or I should say her cat tree. It's a one-poler, but it is a very thick pole, and the unit seems very stable. But it is something to keep in mind for sure.

  15. That's a magnificent perch for Toby. Since our two go outside, they can perch where they choose, they just use us for food. -Jenn

  16. Well, miracles still happen! I hope Toby loves his new perch.
The Mandevillas reaching out to reach other is pretty sweet.
I hope you have a good time planting those bulbs! It will all be worth it when they pop up next spring.

  17. I stupidly collected acorns for the squirrels. I spent the next summer digging up oak trees from my tiny garden. I planted one in a large pot as an experiment. The jury is still out on that one.

    1. As a child, my brother nurtured and guarded an oak tree by our garage. It's still over there, occupying the former veggie garden. Seventy five years old.

  19. the mandevilla plants may look forlorn but they are still blooming prettily. the bulbs will be so nice in the spring.

  20. Yes, that is one STURDY cat tree (as we call them in Canada). Your cat will love it! HRH certainly loved hers while she was alive. She always insisted it had to be right in the middle of the living room's picture window so she could watch everything going on outside. So for years that shabby, ratty-looking, clawed-to-bits cat tree was front and centre when looking at the house from the street, LOL.

  21. I'd rather like to have an observation post like your cat's. Plenty of exercise even when it's raining outside and within reach of the coffee pot. Sounds ideal.

  22. That looks like so much fun. He''ll love it. I'm sort of walking, and when I get there I will let you know.

  24. Wouldn't it be nice for humans to have a sunny window perch.
Alas, frost the other night put the balsam flowers to rest, and the morning glories.
    Stay warm!

  25. I have one similar but shorter for the demon duo. They have already clawed the carpeted posts almost bare in a few places. (Heavy sigh). Still it is sturdy and I figure I can always staple more carpet to it!
