All out there, now

§                   potus doubles down on immigration ban

potus removes top military and intelligence advisors from regular attendance at National Security Council

European leaders reject potus’ refugee ban

potus isn’t a liar; he doesn’t even care about the truth

The ban on immigration makes me sick to my stomach. What else to do? I’ve said I’m technically illiterate, and believe me, I am. I can fire up one little synapse in my brain over a new process, and I follow it with blinders to the end, because I really don’t get it.

But what’s happening to people right this minute, yesterday, today, tomorrow, is wrenching. I roused my daughter and then my granddaughter from breakfast. “How do I make a twitter account? @TheRealDonaldTrump needs to hear from me, right now.”

I have little idea what I’m doing, but @jnoragon has sent two tweets to @TheReal. I cannot throw my body at this wall of ignorance, so I’m left with noise.

What else, friends? Suggestions welcome.

  1. Do what you are doing. Myself, when I eventually get home, am going to ask the local few Muslims how I can become, on paper, a Muslim. If there is some membership role or something I can be put on...
Protest, resist, call people out in public, stuff like that.
So far I'm stopping short of calling for armed rebellion. So far.

  2. It is heartbreaking. And sadly I notice that the countries where he has significant business interests are not, despite being largely Muslim countries, affected.
    Hissing and spitting. Loudly.

  3. Ditto. Not enough resistance in my book. Guess we can all only do what we can, but I'm afraid that is not enough. Where are the powers that be? Can the Supreme Court step in and remove him from office? This is insanity and our nation of refugees is at risk. Sadly, not the Native Americans for their battle is to fight the money grubbing pipeline CEO's and lawmakers in their pockets.

  4. I try to remember this quote, first and foremost:
“In the best of times, our days are numbered anyway. So it would be a crime against nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were designed in the first place: the opportunity to do good work, to enjoy friends, to fall in love, to hit a ball, and to bounce a baby.” Alistair Cooke

I read and try to be rational. Sometimes (often?) the media STILL reports the outrageous first, because it attracts readers, instead of waiting until they have more facts, and report the full truth later.

I try to separate news from opinion, even in the "trustworthy" media sources.

And I trust that there are many good people in positions of power who are fighting back in the ways that make sense for them. Here is something to prove it, in relation to the immigration ban:

I doubt that Trump reads Twitter comments; there must be millions. And I doubt that Trump is the top wingnut in government. He is surrounded by people who have agendas.

    1. That web address goes to a Washington Post article, by the way, by way of MSN news. In case you're doubting the source!

  5. I would agree that he probably doesn't read the tweets sent his way .... just counts his followers. I wonder about the man's mental status. He doesn't seem to be able to really focus. We can hope that our governments checks and balances will win out. The letters of protest should be directed to those who might have the ear of potus.

  6. I've had to leave facebook for now, but before I left I found this and it helped me. I think I will focus on refugees and immigration. My husband was born a refugee and became one again at the age of 11. https://medium.com/the-coffeelicious/how-to-stayoutraged-without-losing-your-mind-fc0c41aa68f3#.zechn0mue

  7. If he wants to be reelected in 2020 he might want to appeal more to than just those with goofy red hats and first-cousin spouses

  8. I said the powers that be will not allow him to do to much damage I could be wrong about that.

  9. You are doing something, Joanne. If your fellow Americans do the same...

  10. Joanne, you are doing more than I am. I just curse😩 And wonder what the airport lines are going to be like when we travel next week? Or what my Dutch family friends will say and ask about what is going on over here in the US? Or whether my green card carrying husband and I will be able to come back home the end of March? Also, thank you for your kind and supportive comment on my blogpost today. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

  11. Just started following you on twitter. if you follow me, you will see the retweets of protest.

  12. The situation is worse than awful, but one thing is encouraging me: all the young people in the protests I'm seeing online. Among them there must be potential leaders. I keep hoping one will come forward, a person without baggage and with mighty charisma, wisdom, and clarity. Of course, in the meantime I can't simply sit here and wait. I'm trying to do the little things I can do, and you're an inspiration there. You may be reaching more people than you know.

  13. I feel exactly as you do about the whole mess, Joanne. My husband talks with his sister in Canada. She says her neighbors can't believe what is going on here. They say the United States is gone in our lifetimes. They find it unbelievable that nothing can be done to stop a lunatic. The problem is that only wolves ---or is it foxes?---are watching the henhouse. Nevermind that old thing about checks and balances. There are none. When both Houses and ----the worst!---the Supreme Court ----are ALL on the same side. The crazy, unbelievable, irrational side. I am afraid. I fear blood will be shed before we ever have "normal" again. There is a limit to what people will put up with. This Civil War can't be fought as some states against others. I never expected this set of circumstances in our lifetime. Good luck with finding ways to help cope. At my house we are trying to go about our daily lives as if none of it matters. Avoid TV. Really hard to be upbeat about anything. Sorry that I can't do anything to lighten your load. You are a dear. We don't deserve what we have been handed.

  14. P.S. Anybody except Orange might be bothered by all the protests. But during the campaign it was said often enough that bad press was better than no press. He is not moved by protests. He is all powerful. The only hope might be if enough of "his own" would get a bellyful and band together to stop it.

G'day from OZ... and catching up a bit with the state of the world. Your spunk ever inspires and amazes me, dear friend. It is surely heart-breaking to be in direct experience of the 'goondah'; whilst from the outside it's looking more and more like the worst type of cartoon. Keep shouting darlin'!!! YAM xx

  16. This blog helps. I'm not going to try twitter. Did you know the WhiteHouse.gov site has a petition site (last I checked)? If anything they can possibly notice the interest in various issues. I do let my opinion be known on FB but not in a big way. I'll like various posts of politicians I support. You sent out postcards which I have not tried. You could join the DNC.

  17. My only hope is that some in congress, on both sides of the aisle, are putting together a plan to politically bring him down. Hopefully, there are those that have courage and a soul. Meanwhile, we must keep writing, calling and doing everything we can to get our message to the right people.

  18. What else? I have no idea.
Leave the country while you still can?

  19. With today's news from Quebec, I would imagine that all those Americans who hankered to go to Canada may be thinking again. Trump will go in time, but I hope that the damage caused does not extend too far into the future. America will - one day - be great again, and the Statue of Liberty will inspire hope in the huddled masses even though they may not be needed urgently to get the infrastructure up and running.

  20. I have friends with dual US/UK nationality - they are quite distressed by it all, although I see in today's paper that he has back off as far as Britain is concerned.

  21. You are my hero. I actually got a twitter account the other day, too. I got it so I could keep track of the alternative agency (National Park Service, NASA, etc) tweets. My favorite one was from the AltUSNatParkService that said "You can take away our official twitter account, but you can't take away our free time" Ha!

  22. every day it gets worse. and congress. they screamed for 8 years about Obama's over-reach of power which was nothing like what is going on and now not a peep. I've been tweeting to Trump not that it does any good. he has another account @POTUS snd I tweet to both. I follow a rogue account supposedly from a WH inside staffer and if it's real...scary scary scary. it's chaos and they can't get him to focus on policy rather then all the disrespect he thinks he's getting. rumor is Bannon is writing his presidential orders. I never thought I would see the end of this republic in my lifetime. all we can do is resist. resist and express our opinions loudly. my fear though is that Bannon will convince him to call out the national guard against protesters.

  24. So far you seem to be doing all the right things. That person will not care about your tweets but keep on sending them. Also send them (along with you postcards) to any official who is in a position to help change all these crazy acts. I am wondering if a few messages to his daughter might not help. She seems to have the most influence over him.

    1. It's put the queen in a really difficult position as she is strictly not supposed to interfere in politics. I doubt she will break out and rebel at the age of 90-whatever she is, but it must be a strain on her, and she is not the only one.
