Today is Tuesday the 10th

I suppose I'm wild and crazy. It's almost eight o'clock. I just finished posting my new charcoal towels. After a year or so of wishing the edges of the towel pictures I posted were not cropped I learned to keep them intact. Take the picture with "camera" lens. The "portrait" lens produces a slightly larger picture of equal clarity, but with cropped edges or corners in order to fit the given frame. Take lots of pictures and learn!

There still are a fair number of black towels left to pair with the charcoal towels, if so inclined, and all the towels are at the top of the hill, to avoid tripping downhill when packing an order. HaHa.

I thought you might enjoy an update on construction out "my" window. Lumber has arrived in stacks and is being distributed around the site. It makes me happy to see people working and earning money. Now the scuttlebutt is cottages such as surround the north side of the core building, of which I live on the second floor, east, will be forthcoming. They are not two story units, but complete units, up and down,

This configuration is so much more satisfactory. More tenants, more renters, more rent money. I am very pleased with the smiling faces of the new tenants. I don't know how management assesses the overall happiness of the renters, but it seems a good system. I remember when we "walked through", the people we passed were welcoming and friendly, and the conversation ran along the line of "Oh, potential renters. You'll find us happy and friendly!" from the people we encountered.

Watching the construction of a building and speculating on the outcome is better than bingo! This building outside my window has become a walkway, not an elevator. The entire kitchen facility and all of the dining room remains in my building. Now all these holes have a sensible use.

That "door" at the base is a door and leads into my building to the cafeteria. The upper slots are windows. I've decided parking will be behind the building, back there before the road.

  3. I am echoing the other comments - and still learning about my camera.

  4. Everybody responds well to a welcoming smile. Looks like there will be more smiles coming.

  5. Actually, there is one very important message in this post - everything works out in the end. And maybe something else - curiosity is a wonderful thing.

  7. There is a dignity that comes with working and earning your money. You are free to make the life that you choose.

I like the idea of happy people all gathered in a happy group.

While it removes your view of trees and such, there will be movement and waves from the passers-by to look forward to! I love you are imagining all the possibilities of that lone structure 😃 And am very glad to read you are in a place that is, overall, 'happy'. YAM xx

  9. Watching the progress of the work must be interesting. It sounds lovely there.

  10. I do believe you have found yourself in the right place. A place where you are free to do your work, practice your art, enjoy community, and be surrounded by interesting goings on. And it sounds like the food is pretty decent!
Is there still a cat in your future?

  12. It's good that you enjoy the construction project so much.

  13. It would be interesting to watch the progress. The hospital had a construction project going while we were incarcerated there. I knew The Patient was feeling really bad when I could not entice him to the window to watch the cranes moving steel beams!

  15. Even with your excellent description I'm still confused about the purpose of that concrete block construction. Are there stairs in there, what are the windows for, and where is the floor between the door and the windows or is there a floor and the windows are just for light?

  16. Construction projects are fun to watch. People working and making a good living is always encouraging. Being surrounded with happy/positive people is important; you chose well.

  17. Happy renters are a good sign. I hate it when I take a new job and the employees who are already there can't wait to tell the new person about how horrible the job/managers/whatever are. That didn't happen with the job I have now. I seldom hear anything negative about my place of employment.

    Love,
    Janie

  18. So are the cottages (if that's what they're building) part of the place you're living? Sounds like maybe the main building owns cottages that they also rent out? Or possibly I'm confused. I guess we'll find out at some point.

  19. I always like watching construction too.

  20. Daughter’s residence is also building an addition. They are expanding all over. In 20-30 years the boom will be over and these places will be repurposed.

  21. That building is beginning to sound more interesting.

  22. Being somewhere with a happy atmosphere is worth a lot. By the way I have a photo of one of the towels you sent me so I am going to look around your site and see if I can find an email address to mail it to. Thanks, I use it a lot!

  23. There's something fascinating about watching new buildings going up. You realise just how much skill goes into it. If I ever tried my hand at bricklaying, I'm sure it would be a sorry sight!

  24. I hope the happy atmosphere continues and the construction work keeps coming along nicely. That is something that will definitely help you get through to spring. Take care.

  25. It's great when the "feel" of a place is a positive one! Keep us informed of the building progress, interesting to have something you can watch out the window. -Jenn

  26. Those towel colours sound so attractive Joanne, love your colours and love the towels I bought from you, they wear like cast iron.

I too am fascinated with any kind of construction, I could watch it for hours. My father would always call this practice being a "footpath superintendent." but something very satisfying about the lego-like action.

  27. This is so cool to watch a building go up. My neighbor is having renovation done (been almost a year now, I think) and I love seeing the progress. You have an awesome view!

  28. I love construction. When our previous neighborhood was being built, walking through the framed spaces was fun. Often there were questions of why on earth did they do THAT?
