Lo ball, and other news

I looked up "lo-ball", to be sure I was using it correctly. Properly, snort, spit, guffaw. Kavanaugh will sit on the supreme court. Justice will be rewritten, some in my lifetime. All you people out there in the streets better keep at it, year after year after year.

And, in other news, cards were point for point, hand for hand today, until the last hand, when I was dealt probably my best pinochle hand since college. Nancy and I cleaned up. I'll run this by Nancy: I'll see if she will switch partners one time. I'll be Peter's partner. I will not say one word to him for the entire game.

I saw the other young surgeon today, and he believes me, that I can get around perfectly well using my good right arm to support my broken right leg. "Or, you'll just use your left arm", he observed. "You probably can't hurt it, since I'm screwing it in, no glue".

Surgery is set for two weeks from tomorrow. "Can we come play cards in the hospital?" Peter asked. "Peter, I scheduled it for the day after! We will play cards right here."

And finally, another homecoming, another dance, another dress.

  1. Nice homecoming dress. I hope it's a great night for Laura.

Kav, the beer-swilling rage-o-holic, will sit on the bench. It's not that Dr. Ford wasn't believed, it's just that none of those Repubs even cared.

    Greetings from out west,
    Bea

  2. Nice dress and nice ribbon around her neck too.
They just care about the party. I'd love to say vastly more, but it is all unprintable.

  3. I hope you continue to get excellent hands. In cards and in life. You are overdue.
Has he been confirmed? The news hasn't reached us yet. And sigh. The narrative that it is young men who have most to fear has. Bigger sigh. And hiss and spit.

  8. Great dress. Do the kids go with dates or do they go with a group of friends? When I was in high school, you couldn't go to a dance unless you had a date. It's nice that more options are available now.

    Love,
    Janie

  11. Very classy outfit, Laura!

I'm glad your surgery is scheduled. That's faster than I expected, and good to hear. You should have a good lot of recovery time in before the weather gets treacherous.

I'm still optimistic that Kavanaugh unleashed enough of his beastly side in front of witnesses that he may yet not be confirmed. Am I just dreaming? Probably. But if he's confirmed it will just stoke the fire under Democrats so there is an upside.

  12. My father and his pinochle partner each was dealt a perfect hand in one game. Each wanted the bid so bad they bid each other until there was no possible way anyone could win. I know you;ll let us know how your surgery goes. And Laura looks absolutely radiant.

  13. I'm feeling pretty pessimistic about Kavanaugh. Sounds like they're going to install him no matter what. What did Trump say about being able to shoot somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue and supporters would still vote for him? Well, there could be a dozen people who come out with what they know about Kavanaugh and Republicans will still vote him in. Aggravation!

Love Laura's dress. She looks so happy.

And good luck with your surgery, Joanne.

  15. You look great, Laura. Congratulations on your card luck. You deserve some good luck:-) Cannot believe they are going to confirm this guy. I refuse to believe it until it happens. There are some republican senators out there that still seem concerned.

  21. It is so wonderful to see that Laura is dressed as a proper young lady for a special day and not as a 25 year old with all but the very smallest parts hanging out of a dress that had to be gotten into with a shoehorn! Bravo!

Did you hear that Lindsey Graham said that if Kav failed to receive enough votes this time, the president ought to nominate him again! What?!?!

Good luck to you. We will be thinking of you.....

  22. Dear Joanne, dad, mom, my younger brother, and I used to play pinocle around the family cardtable when I was in grade and high school. Mom had the ability to quickly figure out from the first few plays what was probably in each of our hands! She was a great player. I haven't played since, but I have such good memories of our doing that. I wonder if there's anyone around here who likes the card game and would want to play. I'm going to see if I can find three likely players! Peace.

A good hand is great, isn’t it?
I know Kav will sit- but they are awakening a sleeping giant.
Hope your surgery goes well, dear!
