The easiest way for me is illustrations with explanations:
A fine, long legged flying insect. Google thinks it's a wolf spider. Google is so wrong, but I don't know what it is, either. On to the real news.
The yellow towels are finished, and up on the Towels for Sale tab.
Here's a new color wheel of what I have available. Next time I will do a far better job of the cream in the center.
The next towel is black and cream. This is a special order for a special person, and anything left will be for sale. Or, when I make my next thread order, black will top the list.
And another friend made another mask. I love this. Look at all those little eyes: I'm looking at you!
I have read and/or reread a lot of books. Since I cannot pass them off to anyone, most of the books completed are lining the shelf under the television, which I have not watched in the last unmentionable years.
And finally, I called my wonderful nursery across the road, and had a dear conversation with my favorite nursery owner. Suncrest Gardens is the name. Wonderful place. Right now they have "curbside service only", but they will reopen by May 1st, if the creek don't rise. And, they will have the mandevillas, in stock, priced and ready to go.
I keep wondering about gardens this year. I'm not sure what will ahppen.
ReplyDeleteThat insect looks like a crane fly to me. But I'm no expert :)
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about plant nurseries and if they'll have any products this year. They have to plant so far ahead. Like all farming-type activities, they are probably having to throw the dice this year.
This year will not be good for any merchant. Sad, sad, sad,
DeleteI agree with Jenny. Daddy Long Legs is their common name. I think their larvae is the Chafer grub which lives on grassroots especially on golf greens. I use to work on a golf course. Hows Mr Heron Joanne?
ReplyDeleteI think it is a daddy long legs too, they float about when they are flying like they are drunk. Lots of great photos and your hair is looking great, growing.
ReplyDeleteThat yellow is so buttery and lovely! I believe your bug is a crane fly. Look that up and see.
ReplyDeleteI once read that Mandeville is not good for cats, I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteNo, not good. But my cat can't get at them.
DeleteEchoing jenny_o on the insect.
ReplyDeleteI have ordered spring bulbs by mail order and hope they can be delivered soon. In the interim I am weeding/preparing ground.
Love those colours. And your mask.
It is a Crane Fly, also known as the mosquito hawk. They are harmless to humans and are really prevalent in the spring.
ReplyDeleteA-yup.
DeleteHmm. I don't know if it's a crane fly but I know it's not what we would call a daddy long legs around here. For us, the body on a daddy long legs is much smaller and there are no wings. The legs are similar, though. I have a big box of books put aside to drop off with a friend who has read all of hers. My tv is getting way too much use!
ReplyDeleteHari OM
ReplyDeleteI love the insect (which I am inclined to agree is a crane fly, based on Google search). And your towels. And that you will be getting your mandevillas! YAM xx
I love the black and white!
ReplyDeleteNo mention of the you know what..good..we have a surfeit of that.. especially those of us taking precautions. Not enough for others
Congratulations on finishing up the yellow towels. That is a pretty shade of yellow. I think the black and cream will make pretty towels too. I'm happy for you to hear the mandevillas will be coming before long!
ReplyDeleteNice cheery post Joanne - that's what we need these days/
ReplyDeleteI’d say crane fly too but could be wrong! Stay safe Joanne.
ReplyDeletethe yellow towel is wonderful! Hmm.
ReplyDeleteI love your color wheel of towels. and I should probably make some masks.
ReplyDeleteand it's a crane fly, what we ca mosquito hawks down here. a misnomer as adult crane flies don't eat. they just live to mate.
DeleteBlack and cream is very stylish. I think it would make a lovely table runner. My daughter made her face mask from an old serviette. We don't need them as we haven't been out for 3 weeks, apart from solitary early morning walks.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure the insect is a species of Crane Fly. It is certainly not a Wolf Spider or any other species of spider for that matter.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a crane fly but we call them mosquito dragons here. Daddy longlegs is a name we Californians use for an arachnid of similar size and physique but wingless.
ReplyDeleteDaddy longlegs to me has always been a very tame, long legged spider.
DeleteSame here! Our son captured one in a jar for a couple of hours and named him Bob :D
DeleteNice mask - stay safe and sane
ReplyDeleteGreat mask. That insect looks like a mosquito hawk, maybe? Oooh, the towels are looking fab. I'm really digging the yellow color. x
ReplyDeleteI worry about the nurseries and will their businesses also go under. Their stores cannot open and now only some can do delivery. I called my favorite place in the world and asked the wonderful owner if I could order plants and pay on the phone and have him put them in my trunk as I drove thru. He told me yes, but also that he has many plants (ordered in December) and doesn’t expect to sell much this year. My heart went out to him. It is really only a five month business with May being their the most important. I hope a way can be found for them to do business.
ReplyDeleteI love the yellow towels! Such a cheerful color! 💛
ReplyDeleteI've always called insects such as that "Gally-nippers." I'm not sure why as I have no idea how the term ended up in my lexicon. Strangely enough, most people seem to know what I'm referring to when I say it.
ReplyDeleteWe are going to get an announcement this week from our governor about when we might get to open up some things. I still thing it's going to be June before anything happens around here. Love the new mask. Take care.
ReplyDeleteMay 1st is just around the corner! That will be good to be able to go into the nursery! I do like that mask!! I'm wondering when things are going to start reopening here in Arizona. I can see on various social media platforms people are getting antsy here.
ReplyDeletebetty
I was going to say mosquito-daddy-long-legs mutation, but I'll bow to the experts and say crane fly.
ReplyDeleteThe yellow is gorgeous! Hopping over to order some now.
I love that mask! You look great wearing it! And lovely towels and great plans for your summer garden.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why there can't be mummy long legs? Our local garden centre opened up a small green grocers as well, and now, under the disguise of this business, also delivers plants as well.
ReplyDeleteIn England they are called Leather Jackets I think. Also Daddy Longlegs. They like wet grass.
ReplyDeleteThat insect looks like a huge mutant mosquito. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteThey are often referred to as flying daddy long legs, but correct name is crane fly. I used to hate them flying across my face when I was in bed on camping holidays,
ReplyDeleteLove your weaving, Joanne.
Kathy in Wales.
Good afternoon, how are you? I'm Brazilian and I'm looking for new followers for my blog. I can follow you too. https://viagenspelobrasilerio.blogspot.com/?m=1
ReplyDeleteIf you follow me, send the link to my blog and I'll follow you back.
I have three of those colours. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a Daddy Long Legs, though there's a weird sort of spider here that's similar and bounces up and down, if disturbed.
ReplyDeleteOne lived in a corner of the loo last year for what seemed like months and I never could get used to it.
Phylum for both is Anthropoda.
ReplyDeleteDaddy long legs, bulbous body, no wings, order-Spider, and class-Arachnida.
Note, Daddy long legs is a poisonous spider, but mouth issue too small to bite humans.
Crane fly, photo above, cylinder body, wings, order-Fly, and class Insecta.
I looked them up.
Can you imagine, Joanne: the last "winter" was so warm that my mandeville survived - outside! So: wonders do happen.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting selection of books. I've read the Keith Richards one, which was fascinating. He's a pretty wild character! I love the face mask, very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to get a mandevilla vine! I am hoping that I can avail myself of a nursery - any nursery - by the time it finally warms up long enough to allow me to put it outside. I am working my way through a lot of audio books, as I am to jumpy to sit and read, and must be doing two things at once. Love that mask!
ReplyDeleteI too love mandevilla! And your towels are so pretty all set in a circle. As for the bug, we have a lot of those around here. Don't know the name. Always thought they ate mosquitoes, but apparently not. And your new mask is cute. I just sent 2 to my cousin in New Orleans.
ReplyDeleteMy local garden store is open curbside only too and I will pick up my order of vegetables to plant soon. Your new towels are pretty.
ReplyDeleteA Mosquito Hawk, I think is your flying beastie. I fear it will be too late to successfully plant much here by the time things are open -- open where I can go and look.
ReplyDeleteI'm very excited about the black towels.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
