A fine, long legged flying insect. Google thinks it's a wolf spider. Google is so wrong, but I don't know what it is, either. On to the real news.
The yellow towels are finished, and up on the Towels for Sale tab.
Here's a new color wheel of what I have available. Next time I will do a far better job of the cream in the center.
The next towel is black and cream. This is a special order for a special person, and anything left will be for sale. Or, when I make my next thread order, black will top the list.
And another friend made another mask. I love this. Look at all those little eyes: I'm looking at you!
I have read and/or reread a lot of books. Since I cannot pass them off to anyone, most of the books completed are lining the shelf under the television, which I have not watched in the last unmentionable years.
And finally, I called my wonderful nursery across the road, and had a dear conversation with my favorite nursery owner. Suncrest Gardens is the name. Wonderful place. Right now they have "curbside service only", but they will reopen by May 1st, if the creek don't rise. And, they will have the mandevillas, in stock, priced and ready to go.
I keep wondering about gardens this year. I'm not sure what will ahppen.

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about plant nurseries and if they'll have any products this year. They have to plant so far ahead. Like all farming-type activities, they are probably having to throw the dice this year.

DeleteI agree with Jenny. Daddy Long Legs is their common name. I think their larvae is the Chafer grub which lives on grassroots especially on golf greens. I use to work on a golf course. Hows Mr Heron Joanne?

It is a Crane Fly, also known as the mosquito hawk. They are harmless to humans and are really prevalent in the spring.

DeleteHmm. I don't know if it's a crane fly but I know it's not what we would call a daddy long legs around here. For us, the body on a daddy long legs is much smaller and there are no wings. The legs are similar, though. I have a big box of books put aside to drop off with a friend who has read all of hers. My tv is getting way too much use!

Congratulations on finishing up the yellow towels. That is a pretty shade of yellow. I think the black and cream will make pretty towels too. I'm happy for you to hear the mandevillas will be coming before long!

ReplyDeleteand it's a crane fly, what we ca mosquito hawks down here. a misnomer as adult crane flies don't eat. they just live to mate.
DeleteBlack and cream is very stylish. I think it would make a lovely table runner. My daughter made her face mask from an old serviette. We don't need them as we haven't been out for 3 weeks, apart from solitary early morning walks.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure the insect is a species of Crane Fly. It is certainly not a Wolf Spider or any other species of spider for that matter.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a crane fly but we call them mosquito dragons here. Daddy longlegs is a name we Californians use for an arachnid of similar size and physique but wingless.

ReplyDeleteI worry about the nurseries and will their businesses also go under. Their stores cannot open and now only some can do delivery. I called my favorite place in the world and asked the wonderful owner if I could order plants and pay on the phone and have him put them in my trunk as I drove thru. He told me yes, but also that he has many plants (ordered in December) and doesn’t expect to sell much this year. My heart went out to him. It is really only a five month business with May being their the most important. I hope a way can be found for them to do business.

ReplyDeleteI've always called insects such as that "Gally-nippers." I'm not sure why as I have no idea how the term ended up in my lexicon. Strangely enough, most people seem to know what I'm referring to when I say it.

ReplyDeleteThat looks like a Daddy Long Legs, though there's a weird sort of spider here that's similar and bounces up and down, if disturbed.
ReplyDeleteOne lived in a corner of the loo last year for what seemed like months and I never could get used to it.
Phylum for both is Anthropoda.

Note, Daddy long legs is a poisonous spider, but mouth issue too small to bite humans.

I am working my way through a lot of audio books, as I am to jumpy to sit and read, and must be doing two things at once. Love that mask!
