From the top

Wow. I just deleted the entirety of the blog I just wrote. That is a first. And, it's not in the recycle bin.

Two weeks ago yesterday, Rose and I went for annual flue and Covid vaccinations. The next day I was fine. Rose has suffered no effects past a sore arm. But on the Monday, I was debilitated. Temperature, fatigue, pain. I spent several days totally in bed. Then down to two naps a day. Then one.

Jan agreed to come help me wind on the new warp that Saturday. That date was cancelled to yesterday. My only contribution was turning the crank. Jan did all the rest, including cleaning up, re-shelving the extra warp, putting away the tools. She left me sleeping.

It's ready to tie on, probably later today, and only a couple of bouts.

We seem to be in our last week of pseudo summer. Today will be in the low eighties, and the rest of the week sixties and seventies. Overnights have been in the forties for a couple of weeks.

There is little fall color this year. Leaves are simply turning brown and falling. Too little rain over the summer.

I am looking for a new home for Kitty. My balance grows more and more precarious; her demand for treats more and more obstreperous. Every time I stand she is between my feet, commanding. I told Jan I probably could solve the whole problem by throwing away the damn jar. Or make it worse.

So far no luck. She could always go back to the shelter, but I really don't want to do that.

Well, that's as much as I can remember of the previous post. Off to put the laundry in the dryer.

  1. So sorry about the covid effects. I was unbelievably tired, but you sound really much worse. I agree with the tripping danger with cats. Can another sturdier resident take her?

  2. So sorry about the cat but your safety has to come first and the tripping is a real threat and I think you mentioned your bones are fragile also, I've witnessed awful things happening in elders and falling.
So very sorry about your illness, reaction to the vaccines?
    Stay well my friend.

  3. I hope you find a good home for Kitty. It took her so long to get used to you and you were so patient with her. In the meantime be extra careful. As one who also falls I can say we don't need any help.

  4. That is sad news about Cat but you are absolutely right- it is not worth the risk of a fall to keep her. Someone will love her, I am sure.
That does sound like a really heavy reaction to your shots. You might want to start spacing them out. Recover from one before you get another? Who knows? Not me.

Bummer about the vax reaction - almost as bad as the things you were jabbed for. I too am sad to read that Kitty must move on, but agree that commonsense, practicality and safety must take priority. Will keep paws crossed for her finding her furever place. YAM xx

  6. It's funny how differently people react to the vaccines. My husband slept for about 24 hours after our flu and covid shots the same day. My only symptom was a sore arm, but in reality that is the arm I broke so it could have been the weather. This Monday we get our first of two shingles. My neighbor said she had no side effects what so ever. I doubt that will be the case for us.
I am sorry about the kitty. I never thought about what a tripping hazard that could be. After one epic fall, that is nothing I want to ever do again. I hope you can find a loving home for the cat.

  7. Beautiful loom, waiting for you.

  8. Sorry to hear about your reaction to the shots. We just got our flu shots last week - no reaction, arms not even sore. Since we had covid in July, Dr. said not to get the covid boosters until January. Did recommend the RSV... unsure about that one.
So sorry to hear about Kitty. Yes, cats love to hang around your feet... and you can't afford a fall. But do try to find her a forever home. Going back to the shelter seems too sad.

  9. Oh, so sorry to hear about Kitty being re-homed! If I lived by you, I would gladly take her, alas. It is true, though, that cats can be a tripping hazard for older people. Well, I guess any pet could be.

  10. I am so sorry to hear that you need for safety to rehome Kitty. And hope you feel better soon. Much better and very soon.

  11. I wonder if the shelter you got Kitty from has a take back/rehoming policy? In the meantime, maybe you could petition the management for a common area cat that would be available for all residents to cuddle with.

  12. It's worrying when the price of protection appears costlier than the affliction itself. Such a shame about Kitty as I assume she has been good company in addition to being a risk. Is there no one who can retrain her for you? We had a similar problem with MIL's dog. Demands for treats became a serious problem for MIL.

  13. The suggestion about spacing the jags is a good one...this is making your body work overtime.

Sad to hear about Kitty, but she is taking advantage...she has come along so far since she came to you, that it is a pity that she needs to find a different home.

  14. I had a shingrix shot and I felt pretty crappy.

  15. We have our shots later this month. I hope not to have a reaction like you had, Joanne.

I hope you can find a new home for kitty.

  16. My worst vaccine reaction was one of the pneumonia shots. It was bad, but pneumonia is worse. Sorry Kitty has to go, but falling is not an option for you. Two years running, our trees have not shed their leaves, new growth in the spring has to shove them off. Very weird.

  17. I'm sorry Kitty is not working out for you. It's too bad she gotten overly demanding. I don't know if this will work. I've used it when I did something I regretted.

I use it with my Microsoft windows computer. I don't know if it will work on an Apple computer.

  18. Sorry about the trouble with kitty. Ours likes treats too, but not all of the time. She also ants wet food often, but she doesn’t eat much at a time. In the end, she has one small can per day plus whatever dry food she wants.

  19. The idea above of kitty turning into a "house" cat for everyone is a good one.
Flu shot for me tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. My Covid shot was two weeks ago and all went well except for a very sore arm the next day.

  20. So sorry about kitty but you can't afford a fall. :( I was OK after the latest covid shot but the time I got two shots at the same time (RSV and something else?) I was miserable for a day or so.

  21. As for a prescription to see a physical or occupational therapist for your balance issues. Therapy can help with balance issues and you can ask for an assessment of your home for falling hazards and get recommendations. I did this years ago and it was helpful.

  22. Sad that Kitty will have to adjust to a new person again, but I hope you find a new home for her soon.

  23. Sorry you got such a reaction to your shots. I had those same shots last week and just had a sore arm. Hope you feel better and are back on your loom soon!

  24. I won't get more than one vaccination at a time. sorry to hear they laid you so low. and what a shame about kitty. I have to be careful when I go feed Momcat and the now tame three boys as a couple of them get around my feet when I'm holding the bag of food.

  25. I wish I'd not read that. I still need to get my covid and flu jabs.

    1. Update; Had the jabs. Reaction as bad as yours. The only consolation is that it is probably not as bad as getting the full thing.

  26. Oh no. I am sorry to hear the news about Kitty. I would try getting rid of the treat jar before I got rid of the cat. It might work. It might not. At least you would know.

The one thing that Tim and I are trying to figure out is whether we need a covid shot, since we both had covid this month.

  27. A shame kitty is not working out. I hope she finds a suitable new home.
It's odd how some people have no problems with vaccinations while others are quite debilitated. Jenny often reacts badly to them.

  28. I'm sorry about Kitty. Maybe try getting rid of the treat jar to see if helps? This morning I almost tripped over little Fritz, my friend Rebekah's dog. I'm used to the big dogs. I got my flu & COVID vaccine this morning. The pharmacist said I might be extra tired tonight. I would love it if it made me sleep all night. I've been waking up during the night and getting up too early and then I'm sleepy all day.

    Love,
    Janie

  29. You gave me a new word to remember, 'obstreperous'. It's almost long enough to trip over.

  30. Sorry to hear about Kitty. I hope you can find her a new home. Take care of yourself. I had the flu shot this week and it knocked me out for a few days.

  31. So frustrating to delete your blog. Even more frustrating to delete all the workings for filling in your tax return like I seem to have done. I got it all ready way back in July, so I wouldn't need to rush now. Can I find it? No. Looking through backups too. I must have accidentally renamed it something else.

  32. Dear Joanne, I hope you are getting better and maybe are even well now.
Yes - a cat can become a burden. I love them, really, but the one I had for half a year when I was still a student was enough: always between my legs (especially tender when I wore black trousers). So, when she disappeared one night, maybe run over, I was really sad - but also relieved, in a way.
I wish you to decide for what is good for you - and that you recover quickly! Britta
