Hello again. Important things first. I was running short on quarters for bingo. In fact, I was reduced to enough for one more game with two quarters left over. I gave half a jar to Laura, which did not bother me at all, but then I had a couple of dry days; no wins. That's gambling for you.
The morning of the day I could gamble my way to bankruptcy, it occurred to me to call my sister. She was happy to procure a roll of quarters for me, and in fact, two rolls appeared, with a little note, "From the man who cannot follow directions!" They are in the trolley of my walker, back and forth to games. For I have won since that awful moment and my little jar is 3/4 full.
Our weather has been close to abysmal. My car has not been started for a month. Every time it has snowed, a couple of fellows have appeared to shovel the accumulation from the foundations of the construction site and keep on building.
Here's a picture of some of the rest of the operation:
I think next week we'll be looking at the second floor going on.
Last week Caroline helped me get a new warp on the loom. This week I straightened out its couple of small problems (one missing thread, which I will run into shortly), and I need to be back to weaving. Caroline really wants to learn more; enter the skill set part of the craft, not just the grunt work.
Like having the quarters meet up with bingo games, I have just about enough time to empty enough of the loom for it to be comfortable for her to learn. Off to the job!
I'm glad your skills will be passed on. There's do much to learn from observing and working with a skilled weaver.
ReplyDeleteI played Bingo for years, and I had surgery on my hand, then we both had Covid and we worn out for weeks after. So I haven't been to Bingo since last spring. I think John has a collection of pocket change somewhere. I'll send you some quarters?
ReplyDeleteYour winning streak struck out? It will return, that is the way it works isn't it? Just to hold your interest and to take your quarters? I would love to drop by and learn from you- best weaver, best teacher! Caroline is one lucky gal. I gave one of your towels to Emily, It is her favorite, of course!
ReplyDeleteThis is the time of year when staying inside is preferable for me too. I smiled at the importance of quarters for Bingo. That’s the kind of need we all should have.

ReplyDeleteYour world may be more confined than previously - but it seems no less entertaining and busy - albeit dependent on coins! Glad Caroline is showing such interest in the loom; here's to that continuing. YAM xx
Surprising to see so much snow at your place.
ReplyDeleteAn apprentice!! Good news x
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that you are teaching someone how to weave. If we lived close together I would have asked you to teach me long ago ;-) I'm glad you are in the winning streak at bingo and that your sister was able to help you procure quarters.
ReplyDeleteNow, I'm the first to admit I'm nowhere near your league as a gambler of quarters, but this week we played rummoli with the neighbours for pennies. I pretty much got wiped out.
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled that your skills (at least your weaving skills) will be passed on. And happy gambling.
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful that you teach your craft to someone else, Joanne!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am glad that you go on weaving.
As to gambling: good luck further on!
Bingo I played in England, loved it, and even had luck - normally I have the luck on the other side of the proverb "Unlucky at cards, lucky in love" - but there I won a bottle of Bailey's - unusual gain in more than one way :-)
I'm surprised the building is continuing, doesn't the wood get damp from the weather and is it wise to build without it getting a chance to dry out? Do they not worry about warping?
ReplyDeleteI can see that you may soon be crowned Bingo Queen of the building, Joanne! When you need the contact for Gamblers Anonymous just let me know and I'll find it for you!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are well supplied with quarters as the bingo always sounds like fun. Your winning streak(s) and reactions from the group is really quite funny. Caroline's interest in weaving is wonderful. Clearly she's got the gene for great weaving. With your help, she will be as great a weaver as you. The construction is progressing. Do they have a move-in date?
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed by these fellows who continue to work in the cold and snow.
ReplyDeleteIf you keep those rolls of quarters in your walker, Lady Luck might shine on you and they won't be needed.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good job you don't have a house to lose. But do hang on to your care in your mad new gambling habit. Shirt off your back comes to mind.

Gambling with quarters seems like a harmless pastime. :) Especially if you win!
ReplyDeleteMore learning looms for Caroline.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your haul of quarters. It's nice that Caroline wants to learn more about weaving--good to pass on your talent.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Have someone start your car and let it run for a while. You don't want to have to mess with a low battery when you need to go somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI had no doubt you would recover your quarters. And how nice that Caroline is interested in your art/weaving. Neither of my kids was ever interested in learning or joining us in our art. You work too hard for not enough money they said.
ReplyDeleteMy quarters tend to get used on laundry and bus fares.
ReplyDeleteYes, your weather does look awful. I always feel bad for people that have to work outside.
ReplyDeleteAll that snow looks COLD! We're having an Arctic freeze here at the moment - 27 F outside and sleeting. Good time to stay inside. Enjoy your Bingo!
ReplyDeletethat's 27 F (not -27F)!! Good Grief!
