December is Laura's flat out favorite month.
Early on, her birthday. Later on, Christmas.
It's the present thing, I believe.
It started last weekend when Laura wondered what we should do for stockings this year. I volunteered to ask Aunt Janice for ours, and she asked if I would be offended if we just looked for our own.
"What about any of the ornaments?" She hoped never to see those again, either.
So, we went to look at what is up for sale this year.
Needless to say...
We picked out a little tree, some garland, and the beginning of the ornaments.
We do have thirty odd days to accumulate ornaments we like. (I liked the owl!)
Mr. You Know Who hasn't knocked it over yet, an annual occurrence at the old house.
He does nap on the tree skirt every day,
after his obligatory pounce to shake out mice or things.
One of the first things Laura hopes to find is the star.
In the meantime, a Santa hat.
That's great new traditions for you 2. We always tie our tree to the wall then we don't worry about the cat.

New home, new start, wonderful memories to make for just the two of you. That is beautiful, Joanne. Each of these ornaments that you put on the tree will be so special and I am sure Laura will treasure them all her life.

I had an extra glass of wine at dinner tonight and when I opened your site, at first thought I was at Knatolee's World,(http://knatolee.blogspot.com) a magical place in Canada where she takes in a stray animal about every hour on the hour (and has over 20 cats as a result).

ReplyDeleteI have very fond childhood memories of the dog knocking over the tree every year. And those were the days of glass ornaments, so it was always exciting to see how many survived to fall another year. Amazingly, most did survive. It just wouldn't have been Christmas without the tree falling over. Yours is looking great - first Christmas in your new place!

I'm thinking of putting up a tiny tree and see if Angel leaves it alone, there'll be a few things strung up high again where he can't get at them.
Lovely to see Laura so content. We scaled down tree decorations a couple of years ago & bought some pretty glass baubles.

ReplyDeleteSimple and elegant; not a bad philosophy to live by! Love the heart on Laura's door too. To keep the J's from sending the tree flying, I used a pair of old socks loaded with gravel as 'anchors' under the skirt. Wouldn't stop a major onslaught, but was good for casual interest and passing traffic! YAM xx
It's nice to have the Christmas spirit. I am debating whether to bring out my tree out of the shed.
ReplyDeleteI think it is nice to start so early to decorate the Christmas tree. In Germany you do it at Holy Night - (then they are often a bit dry, because they stood a long time at the Christmas market), then many people throw them out at 7th December. So: you get more enjoyment out of your trees!

ReplyDeleteLaura is a good decorator, bless her gift-loving heart. Cats like to nap under the Christmas tree because they know they are the best gifts. I wrote a poem once that said so. Happy Thanksgiving!
