I was not at work yesterday, and consequently missed seeing these snapdragons at their peak, said the road super, who pointed them out to me today.
We had plenty of rain all summer, but not a drop the last two weeks.
Snapdragons are perennials, but even so...
Wherever they blew in from, it seems the limestone pit represented the last best hope
before blowing away again this fall.
I adore snapdragons
ReplyDeleteA flower every child loves
They fascinate the thirteen year old yet; she collects the seeds in the fall to resow in spring. I wonder if she will ever trust them.
ReplyDeleteDo they like lime.
ReplyDeleteMerle........
Tenacious little devils...with a prevailing wind we should have the seeds before the first snow.

I do love snappies. Water restrictions have meant I haven't grown them for a few years. This coming season I must. And a few other favourites.
ReplyDeleteSnapdragons and touch me nots; perennial favourites... pun not intended, lol.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love snapdragons!!
ReplyDeleteSnapdragons seem to be our family flower. If you gently pinch the sides of a blossom together you can see the dragon's mouth open and close. My children love them.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty! Glad you got a picture of them!

I love snapdragons. There's a few old gardens around Adelaide that have them in mixed colours.

ReplyDeleteThey are one of the Happy Flowers of Life... not least because of their tenacity! Great little 'snap' post.... YAM xx
A delightful photo. Greetings to you!
ReplyDeleteI like snapdragons. I haven't raised then for years, though. Sorry I can't share some of our rain this summer. It's been beautiful lush green.
ReplyDeleteWe have snapdragons here too Joanne, but we tend to treat them as annuals. They do come in some stunning colours.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing them in other people's yards but I never plant them.
ReplyDeleteNice to see pretty flowers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little surprise!
ReplyDeleteI am not much of a gardener but I plant a few annuals every summer. This year I hit the greenhouse at the end of the season, and snapdragons was one of only three annuals of which they had any amount left, and I grabbed them. I hope mine get as big as the ones in your picture!
ReplyDeleteGravel of all places. Such lovely flowers out of nowhere.
