I visited my daughter a couple of years ago, and admired the orchid in the window. She told me the orchid maintained on an ice cube a week. This is the one in her window. I was gifted one for my birthday, a few weeks later, with several lovely flowers that went on for a long time.

A bigger pot is called for next year. We have more pots, by the same artist, that should be holding more than pink baseballs and light bulbs. It's all coming together.
Perhaps a bigger pot, perhaps another orchid? I got started this way and before I knew it I had over sixty, greenhouse and eventually a member of the local orchid society. It’s called orchid fever.
ReplyDeleteOrchid on the rocks. Who knew?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteMy several-year-old orchid is looking a little peaked this spring. I wonder if IT needs a new pot and fertilizer too.
Wow. How beautiful. How magical. What fun.
ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful flowers, the pot is pretty too.
ReplyDeleteMerle.........
That was neat how you chronologically had pictures of the progress. Such a small beautiful thing to cheer up a day, isn't it?

Wow! I'm truly impressed. I used to have the most difficult time getting orchids to bloom. I could keep them alive for years just fine, but not get them to bloom. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteJust lovely, Joanne! Wow.
ReplyDeleteMaintained on an ice cube? Does that mean that putting an ice cube in the pot each week gave the orchid a sufficient amount of liquid? The photos are beautiful. I don't think I've ever had orchids.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
My orchids are beautiful this year too. One of them even grew two bloom spikes. Never had that happen before. I love your pots
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever had a plant that lived for a year...except in my office when I was working. My secretary took care of it! Your orchid is lovely.

ReplyDeleteShe is certainly showing her worth! (I assume that orchids all are 'shes')

ReplyDeleteOrchids are curious creatures and seem to only work for those they like. I adore them, but they do not adore me. Them and african violets. Suicidal round the YAMster. sigh. Looking forward to the full bloom piccy!! YAM xx
Gorgeous plant ... gorgeous pots. One question: How do you keep your cats from turning them into lunch?
ReplyDeleteThe old outdoor cat would be interested only in plants that grew mice and birds. The young, indoor cat is a problem. However, his preference seems to be Christmas cactus. If you look at the March 30th picture, there is a suspicious tooth mark in one orchid. In other pictures you can see tentative tooth nibbles.
DeleteI see those teeth marks now :) I am down to two stubs of plants, from a starting point of more than a dozen some years ago. Three (and sometimes four) indoor cats!
DeleteFun sequence of shots. Orchids can be both a challenge and a reward. Your title really had me thinking in another whole direction. It sounded like a plot to stew up an enemy or at least really ruin his beverage.
ReplyDelete"stew up an enemy" LOL Leenie
DeleteBeauty will not be denied in an Orchid.
