Run up to winter

Hamilton hands off to Uncle Tom

Who positions the log and calls

"Hit it" to the girl at the control.

Uncle Tom throws the split log into the cart

And so the pile grows.

This year on the left, next year accumulating on the right.

Emily is at work at the farm
Both she and Hamilton are going to the Homecoming Dance tonight.
Emily has a 45 minute window to get home, shower and dress.
She's already texted me the exact location to pick her up from work.

There will be pictures tomorrow.

  1. I hope Emily won't be too tired at the dance. Naaah... I doubt it. Kids have endless energy. I would have needed a long nap first. I'll bet they have a glorious time. Looking forward to seeing the photos.

  2. Just getting a post ready while tomatoes roast in the oven, then I have to join Chris outside...can't let him have all the log splitting fun! (Hard to type with tongue in cheek).

Now then what's this - machine splitting? I had this Saturday task also - it involved axes and stumps and lots of near misses.... hmm machine may be good.... Bet she brushes up nice! YAM xx

  5. Log splitters are great inventions. Our log splitter is powered by the hydraulics on a 1960's International Tractor - great fun if you're on the lever. Hope Emily and Hamilton have a good time at the dance.

  6. That is a truly impressive pile. When we had wood-fired heating all the chopping, splitting and collecting was done by hand. Which warmed us up long before we lit the fires.
Looking forward to photos from the dance.

  7. Synchronise your watches....

I would have loved a log splitter when in France...but it was just me, a stump and the axe.

  8. How different those kids lives were before you stepped in. You did the right thing.

  9. That looks much easier than using a axe.

  10. Looks like a lot of wood to help keep warm when the winter days approach. I'm sure the grands enjoyed their time at the dance; looking forward to seeing pictures.

  11. Log splitters are amazing, so efficient and, I think, whole lot scary. Learning the value of work--priceless.

  13. I love the way teenagers do everything at the last minute! and they can manage it, as well. I expect Emily ended up looking great.

  16. We are lucky in that our neighbor gets a little wood happy every year and chucks too much and then ends up giving his excess to us so that it doesn't rot. I like a fire going in the Winter. Bing is less excited, says that it is more trouble/clean up than it is worth.

  17. I remember the axe-love Tom's log splitter. What I miss most is the smell of a wood fire..
