My brother-in-law, Tom, a veteran. One Memorial Day, 1948, we helped Dad pick
the iris along the fence in the back yard and took them to the cemetery. He called them flags and said they bloomed by
Memorial Day to honor all the soldiers. Remember
our soldiers.
Every day, Joanne, every day.

Flags, huh? My dad always called them that and I never knew why. Your explanation suits me fine.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful dedication to those who have served and are serving.
ReplyDeleteI've always called them flags but never knew why, thank you.
Iris have somehow always been associated with Memorial Day for me.
ReplyDeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard that explanation for iris, but it's a good one!
ReplyDeleteMy soldier son thanks you. And I thank him!
