Done, done, and done

Yesterday friends Deb and Pam came by to liberate a shovel full of Aunt Laura's iris from the old garden, and go to lunch.Which we did.

Before they arrived I came very near the end of my second attempt to make a shirt. I finished it in the afternoon. My thyroid and I came to a satisfactory resolution of the job.

If I ever make it again, I probably won't trick it out with buttons. Otherwise it is a decent job, for fabric of a width intended for towels. There is plenty of the fabric left; I've just set it aside for the time being.

We left the garden with the intended plunder, and more. Snuggled in among the wild overgrowth, many colchicum blossoms. One of us had a shovel and one of us had an extra bag and one of us would like some bulbs to plant.

I've decided to go ahead with planting a pot of bulbs. We are zone six, more or less, and the bulbs I want are hardy to zone 3. My pots are completely immobile.

They are situated to hold the poles with hooks that hold my hanging baskets. The poles are secured to the deck uprights. Each pot weighs at least seventy five pounds.

Short of a tornado, nothing will move. I do subscribe to "better safe than sorry", so I shall fashion snug winter jackets of burlap. Perhaps I'll sit out in the sunshine and stuff them with straw. Or not.

At lunch that afternoon, an invitation was extended to participate in another artist open house. It's time to get back to something I'm good at. There is no line at my door for shirts, but there is a small clamor for towels.

The open house is in November, so that is my target. I must re-thread the loom, at which I am slower than ever. And rewind a lot of bobbins, and put a big towel warp on the beam and pull it through the heddles and reed. And tie it up. You know. All the tedious prep work.

But first I have an appointment to have my hair cut. Until we meet again, when I will have far less hair. And this picture was two weeks ago. My hair is irritating now. Not good.

  2. Nice loot! Good shirt! I usually wait until my hair is annoying before having it cut.

    1. I told management we'd be there. Word got around; the neighbor who's taken to parking in front of the house parked in front of his yesterday.

  4. Weaving seems a kind of magic to me, your towels make me happy every day when I look at them.

  5. I hate it when my hair gets irritating - which it does on a regular basis. I will have to say that your towels are really wonderful and I imagine that displaying them will ratchet up the clamor.

  6. Funny just how fast hair grows!! When you mentioned tornadoes, it made me think of the idiot's wall and how it will withstand Mother Nature. I wouldn't be disappointed to see a good wind take it out. Bigly.

Well done retrieving some of the bulbs; and I like the buttons on the shirt - which is your usual gorgeous blend. Now we need an 'after' shot of the hair &*> YAM xx

  8. Well if those lovely blue towels you sent me are anything to go by Joanne your towels should sell well - they are admired by everyone.

  9. Your designs and work are so lovely.

It is time to head to the shop and do the same here.

  10. Aren't you glad to have your hair irritate you? Not long ago you were lamenting the absence of hair. You will do well with your towels.

  12. LOVE and am awed by your shirt. And so pleased that your thyroid is playing nicely, and that another show is in the offing.
Isn't that stage when hair gets irritating (the origin I am sure of the phrase 'in your face') vile. Happy haircut.

  13. Hair is a bit of a memory to me- though if I didn't shave every other day it would grow back.

  14. Sometimes the hair can be so annoying when it grows out. That's one of the reasons I keep my hair much longer. I do like your shirt. Well done! I'm glad you are preparing for the show in November.

  15. It is amazing how quickly hair grows. Mine is short too and get unruly rather quickly!

  16. Love the shirt!
When I hear straw, I think mice.

  17. It seems you are back to yourself after the thyroid issue - so glad to see it! My hair has been growing like crazy all summer - if I don't go for a haircut every four weeks it feels draggy and awful.

  18. I used to get my hair cut when in London...then I discovered a super lady in the wholesale veg market here in CR - a great job at a fraction of the price. So irritating when the hair is growing out.

  20. I love those colours in the shirt. And your hair looks great but I know how annoying growth can be so mine is up permanently now. I have visions of a braid down my back at some point.

Lovely flowers too. A successful day for you.

  22. I'm looking at your picture and wondering just how much shorter your hair can get, short of shaving your head? mine irritates me when my fringe hangs in my eyes, well, in front of my glasses, but even then I don't trim it until I get tired of clipping it back.
Just goes to show how vastly different people can be doesn't it?
I'm glad you're threading up the loom again, even though it takes you longer now, the satisfaction you'll get from making and selling your towels out weighs that initial discomfort.

  23. P.S. the shirt is lovely, the buttons add that finishing touch.

  24. It looks as though your hairdresser is altogether kinder and more co-operative than mine who likes to exercise total control over 'her ladies'. Your haircut actually suits you! I always wonder who I am when I look in the mirror at the end.

  25. I hope the purloined irises thrive in their new location!

  26. As much as I hate sewing buttons on anything, they do look nice on your shirt. It's a soothing color palette.

  27. Love the shirt and the buttons are the perfect touch! A good 50% of my Iris bulbs have disappeared this year--gophers, darn them to heck and back. :/ Nothing for it but to purchase bulbs when they go on sale. Your pink blooms look wonderfuland I hope they do well in their new home.

  28. I think your shirt turned out great. Nicely done. Hope the haircut went well. Take care.

  29. I think your shirt turned out pretty good I only make skirts and pants but no longer wear skirts so it pants only and they are cheaper to buy so nothing really.

  30. Your ambition is inspiring. And yes, while it looks to me like you have another month to go before needing a haircut, I completely understand the irritation of hair not the length you want.
