Color is the spectrum of light; white is the absence of all
color and black is the presence of all color. I’ve learned a couple more things
about color over the years, but those two facts are my color bedrock. It’s
about perception, I've decided.
I am inundated with the appreciation of others of how well I
see colors, post cataract surgery. “Don’t the colors just amaze you?”
Short answer, “No,” they simply are colors I can now see.
Hunter green has always been hunter green, navy blue, navy blue. Once again I
can tell one from the other. Anything
can fall from my hand and roll under my desk, and I can find it without a
flashlight.
There is something extraordinary I can see again. The night.
I can see the entire road I am driving on. I can see across three lanes of
traffic and a grassy median. I can sit on the porch and watch the night sky
over the tree line. I bet, if I were Daniel Boon I could drop a squirrel with
one shot from the top of a pine tree on a moonless night. If I knew how to
shoot a gun.
My daughter asked me today when I could wean myself from the
“coming home from the eye doctor after drops sunglasses.”
“No, no, not my almost movie star specs!” I showed her no
light gets in from the top or from the sides, and I can wear them right on top
of my head when I’m indoors.
Occasionally there almost is too much light indoors, too.
But, I’m tough!
On top of my head as I write.
I never wore sunglasses until after the surgery. Now In I need them all the time. I only wore those wrap arounds for a while. Mrs. C. said I looked like a bumble bee.
ReplyDeleteMy cataract surgery was 10 years ago, but I remember the clarity I'd missed for some time....at the end, just before the surgery I couldn't drive at night at all, it was too fuzzy and light diffused too much. Also, I went from being very nearsighted without glasses to only needing them for reading.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter absolutely LOVES those sunglasses, when her grandfather had cataract surgery she snitched his glasses as soon as he was able to stop using them! As for tough? I certainly wouldn't argue with you Miss Joanne.

ReplyDeleteNo sunglasses for me, my outside glasses are tinted to become darker in strong sunshine one less thing to take out of the house.

You are a wonderful testimony to how good vision improves after cataract surgery. While I'm not there yet and hope not to be any time soon, I'll remember all the benefits you described of it and how relatively "easy" it was of a procedure.

ReplyDeleteWhat a gift, to see so clearly; ...and I kid you not, this very day I was walking out with my sister and niece and Dunoon put on its once monthly sunshine show. I have yet to find my sunnies from the remaining unpacked boxes and it was so strong out there today I nearly went demented with the pain. BRIGHT LIGHT I cried. Which resulted in sister handing over hers. I'd give anything for a pair like yours!!! YAM xx
Himself once went a long time between eye tests and appointments. When he finally got his new glasses, he said more to himself than to me, "I can see the leaves on the trees again." This scared me because at the time he drove for a living, and i wondered what else wasn't all that clear to him.
ReplyDeleteHis eyes have always been sensitive to light, and he'd LOVE these sunglasses. The side shields are the bomb.
Don't lose them on the top of your head!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could see the entire road at night. I have to stick to my neighborhood after dark because I can't see very much. Do I have cataracts? My eyes are very sensitive to light.

Regaining your Daniel Boone eyesight is a miracle that was impossible only a few decades ago. We live in an amazing time. Congrats and hang on to those cool specs.
ReplyDeleteI like those frames and the way they shut out light from above and sides. May I save the picture? I'd like to take it with me the next time I get sunglasses. I have prescription sunnies but have to wear a sunhat to stop sun coming in over the top and sides.

DeleteThey gave me a sample pair when I had the first eye fixed, and a coupon to buy one, get one. They come in several sizes to fit over regular glasses. I saw similar sun glasses in the optometrist shop, but these cost far less. 29.99 for this pair plus a free pair. Woo-hoo.

ReplyDeleteSounds like the results of your cataract surgery are good. I'm so glad. I've been told that I will need it eventually, but not just yet. I don't have any problems during the day that I know of... but I do see *streaks* everywhere from head lights and street lights at night. And my day glasses are the kind that *darken* on their own. I did this because bright lights and glare can bring on a migraine for me.
