Belly shots

This winter has been so long and mean,
I said I would go to the ground
For belly shots of new growth.

Crocus!
This is for Jane, who's been under the weather,
As well as under the snow.

We have snow forecast for the weekend,
So these shoots have three days to get tall enough
To look around.

If it does snow this weekend
We won't be cleaning up detritus and seed hulls.

  1. You are actually lucky, we still have about a foot of snow in Ontario.

PS I think we may see crocus in May...June...July?
PPS Glad I don't do your laundry if you've been bellying along the ground!

  3. That looks like some daffodils reaching for the sky as well. Over here, I have a very, very confused crocus which burst out of the ground and flowered. About five months too early.
Thank you for bellying down for these shots - I love them.

  6. Good to see the sprouts coming up. I hope the snow doesn't come by to ruin any growth.

  10. Dear Joanne,
so you have all the joy of daffodils and crocus before you (here the crocus has almost withered).
Though: too much snow is not funny. I am hesitating to mention Oscar Wilde's story "The Selfish Giant" because I do NOT insinuate in any way that Canada has ANY similarity to that giant - I think of it as a very friendly country; the story as such is interesting nevertheless.

  11. Mine look similar. The crocus usually bloom on March 17th around here but the size they are now suggest it may be April 17th before we see a bloom. I heard that there is another chance of snow next week also.

  12. The gray days are really depressing! I did see a couple of green shoots in my daylilies last week when the temperature was 80 ........ snowed the very next day!

  15. Yes indeed, long and mean. And as soon as spring starts to poke its head out, winter decides to kick some spring butt.

  16. I don’t much care for winter anymore. Headed to Arizona tomorrow.

  17. If mine peeped up now, I'd never know. They'd be under more than a foot of snow. Nice seeing yours though.

  18. Dear Joanne, I'm not remembering where you live. I know that Minneapolis got three inches last night or the night before. Here in western Missouri we got a dusting on Sunday morning. But only a dusting. But the days seem to be bipolar--one day warm, the next really chilly with a cold wind. That's what today is so I don't plan on doing any walking. I surely hope that the crocus thrive. Peace.
