I’m thinking many of you lovely people simply don’t hang around
with tough old broads. And, the operative word may be old; as I seem to have a
decade on everyone, except Lois, who I would be content to be when I get even
older.
So, I will write more adventures, starting with “Why your
father and I got married.”
But first I am going on a day trip with Linda, another tough
old broad. Linda is so tough that at a show we did together she returned to me
a rug a customer purchased at my booth before she arrived at Linda’s booth and
discovered she loved Linda’s rugs more. The customer was too embarrassed to
return her purchase, so Linda took it from her hands, brought it to my booth
and said “This customer wants her money back.” And when I was done laughing I
did it. Perhaps Linda is an even tougher old broad than I, but then she is nine
months older…
After the day trip I will have cataract surgery Monday,
right eye. Woo hoo. And after a week or so of not cringing when I make left
hand turns across two lanes of traffic, into my own lane, on filthy black,
rainy nights, I'll have the other one done so I can make right hand turns just as
easily. On filthy black nights, that is. I used to stay home nights, but now I
have grandchildren. Like tonight, I have to fetch Emily from working on her
Science Fair project, probably not before eight or nine. If it weren't a
requirement I wouldn't sign off on Science Fair, but that’s another story.

Had my eye surgery over a year ago, among other things, you will enjoy vivid colors again!

Good luck with the surgery. My mother had it and even in her self appointed role as a martyr, admitted it made a HUGE difference.
Ooooh, he WAS good looking!!!! Once you get your eyeballs fixed, you'll be able to see for yourself!

ReplyDeleteI have an appointment tomorrow at the eye clinic to see about fixing a droopy eyelid so I am fairly well in the same boat with you.
ReplyDeleteThis is pathetic but I can't think of any tough old broads. We all seem to act nice in public and then talk ka-ka in private. I think tough broads intimidate me, and I'm sorry to say that.
Good that you will get the surgery soon. My mom needs it too but it isn't so easy because of her immobility. The city where she lives cannot do it for that reason and she can't travel so easily. Sigh....

The very thought of eye surgery makes me cringe. I can barely put in eye drops when I need them.

ReplyDeleteJoanne! Am pretty certain it has been made clear that after eye (I am assuming cataracts here) surgery, you'll be doing NO night driving for at least four weeks... contingency plans???
On the up side there's no arguing with tough old broads by any other than another of the feather; headed that way myself and have known and wrangled with many over the years - including my own mother. They are amongst the very best of friends to have. Pretty sure they are the "woof" in the weaving of society! YAMxx
Hope your surgery goes well. I'm in for a night time adventure myself tonight as I take my grandson to his first camp away for Beavers. If I live through it I'll tell you all about it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you eye surgery goes well. I don't like going out once it gets dark but not because I can't see well. I don't mind being out after dark if I'm already out or if someone can pry me out but left to myself, I would stay put once it gets dark. and yah, all the good for nothin's look pretty good when they are young. It's their only saving grace.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your upcoming eye surgery. It's so great such things are available to us. I'm guessing I'm pretty close to your age and I remember so many illnesses and and ailments that were just accepted as a condition of old age just to be endured.

ReplyDeleteLinda's rugs are very nice, but I'm sure that yours are too. I've got cataracts starting on my eyes too - got my eye appointment on Tuesday. Good luck with yours.
ReplyDeleteTough, smart and wise too. Cataracts are an easy and quick surgery. I used to work with eye doctors who did the surgery. You will be pleased with the results.
ReplyDeleteI echo everyone else, cataract surgery is fairly easy and a good thing to get over with now while you can. My shortsightedness was also corrected with the lens implants. You may not need any glasses, or only for reading. What freedom, if - like me - you've worn glasses all your life! Best of luck!

I wouldn't call you a tough old broad either. You're strong, accomplished, dependable, caring. And yes, Jim was quite good looking. :-)
ReplyDeleteHow did your eye surgery go, Joanne? Being able to see the world through clearer vision is quite a joy, and personally, it's something for which we should always be thankful. My advice? Have regular checkups with your ophthalmologist. Those can help you maintain your eyesight through the years. I hope you're enjoying the colors of the world!
