Big jobs, little jobs

I spent a busy, quiet weekend. Who am I kidding there. Almost every day is qui-et! The only voices come from the radio or the Mp3. Or the very occasional cat meow. If he's waiting at the door in the morning he turns and heads to his end of the house. He looks back to assure I'm in his wake, but his progress is steady.

If he jumps down from the cat tower, he generally has something to say. As if I don't know the routine, and I won't continue to move on without encouragement. He's almost in the "cat room" when he leaves his tower and I'm still on my bedroom end. He beckons me to catch up.

I spent the weekend finishing towels. That is a not so big job, especially since I have a re-warping facing me. I will do my best to suck it up and get this warp beamed before the week is out. Then I will suck it up again and get it tied in a week. I do hope to finish another happy color of towels by Thanksgiving.

The problem is, I've run out of alternatives to beaming and tying. I finished The Crown. I've finished Schitt's Creek. I've started David Letterman, and that could be bad. For my time. I cannot listen to Mp3 and count turns. Can't go there again until I'm tying.

This morning I had a pleasant interaction with my state sales tax collection agency. I received another past due notice for not filing a monthly return. Sigh. I won't retell the sad story of incompetence from them over more than a year.

Suffice it to say, for the first time I spoke with a woman. At the end of telling her what she needed to do she said "Just a moment, I'm fixing it now. There. Done." I asked her if there would be a confirmation number for whatever she had done and she said No.

Pause. Then she said "But my name is Karen and here is my badge number:"

If I write about this topic again, it will have nothing to do with her.

  1. I need a new series to watch too. The problem is that most of the ones I'm interested in are on Brit Box or Acorn, which I don't have. I seem to pay plenty for cable and have Netflix and Amazon Prime, so I resent paying more for yet another streaming service. Gosh, I sound grouchy!

    1. I'm 'grouchy' along with you. I too have cable and Netflix and AP and most of what I am interested in is on BritBox!

  2. Like the old saying goes, if you want something done right, get a woman to do it! Or a cat. They'd do a good job too, if there were a treat in it for them.

  3. How I love those green towels - and all of your towels are happy colours. Mine certainly put a smile on my dial every time I use them.
I am so glad that Karen belied the bad things currently attached to her name. And hope that this aggravation is permanently done and dusted.

  4. It is quiet here too... but busy also. Cleaned up all the clutter in my computer room and in other places throughout house. Putting out a box or 2 of things we don't need/want onto the curb every Thursday for the garbage man Friday. Box is usually gone by Thursday evening. Glad Karen was helpful. Hope problem is solved.

  5. If you get Netflix, you might enjoy The Good Place. It is a comedy starring Ted Danson and Kristen Bell. For a mystery series, I enjoyed Broadchurch. There is also Madam Secretary with Tea Leoni if you aren't too sick of politics! Of course, there is also the Great British Baking Show and The Repair Shop which are just terrific. These are just a few of the ones that I have enjoyed.

    1. Haven't been able to get into Good Place or the Baking Show. Broadchurch was excellent. Must take a look at Repair Shop.

    2. I LOVE the repair shop. Artisans doing incredible work. Sometime on valuable pieces in monetary terms but much more often on pieces of immense personal value.

  6. Joanne if you get the weather Missouri has then get ready for snow! It's been snowing all day here but has only stuck to the ground and not the street or steps - yet. I enjoyed watching The Crown and I am looking forward to the next season of it whenever it comes out. Our cats do the same thing - leading us into the kitchen when we get up. First things first with cats and that means breakfast and opening the blinds. I love the green towels!

  7. I love the green and yellow towels. they are bright and nice color.

It is quiet here as well. Altho the temp is going down, Santa Ana winds are blowing. I used to say that Santa Ana winds blew through my sinuses in a hot wind. Now I know that is the case, but I wish it were not.

  8. That cat is quite a character. Good company too.

  9. Competent customer service is awfully comforting, isn't it? It is also increasingly uncommon. I have a quiet cat as well. She believes I am nearly trained.

I am currently binge watching A PLACE TO CALL HOME... post-war family drama set in Northern NSW. Worth a look to see if it is on any of your available channels. YAM xx

  13. It is such a pain to try to get some agency or business to fix a mistake. My sympathies. Try watching Lucifer or Dead Like Me. Both are entertaining. The 'adult' language sometimes goes overboard. If you can live with that they are cute little shows.

  16. Re the above comment about Britbox and Acorn. I agree, it's maddening to pay more. But we watched all the series that were of interest to us on Prime and Netflix. Then I checked out Acorn. It helps some that there is no time limit. Usually there is a 7 day free trial. You can watch quite a few shows in 7 days! Then, what I did was subscribe to the service just for the length of time it took us to watch our favorites. I think the Murdock series was our first. There were maybe four or five series on Acorn. When we had seen all of those, I cancelled it and got Britbox. There were several wonderful---to us---series on Britbox. We exhausted those choices. Then I cancelled Britbox. Now I am paying for CBS. Didn't think I would ever do that, but we LIKE Perry Mason, Cagney and Lacey, and several others. When we run out, I might start over and see if Acorn or Britbox has added anything, At least by alternating, I am not spending so much.

I hope the new warping goes well and speedily.

  18. One of the major problems of the age is that it's very easy to install things into a computer, but it's very difficult to remove them. It'd be hard to find anyone who hasn't suffered from this syndrome.

  19. men strut and crow but women get it done. that is a nice green. I don't watch TV though it is generally on. I'd rather read when I have sit down time. One show we watched, Bob Hearts Abishola. I read it got renewed for another season but don't know when it starts.

  20. It does not always turn out so well, when speaking to a government worker. Glad you got someone who could take care of the problem and was accountable. I've been going through SSA employees like mad - I finally got my own Karen for Medicare and she handled it personally, with me on the line, and saved me a lot of frustration! My cat is only vocal in the morning, when he feels it is past time for breakfast. Then he circles through the living room, yowling as he passes me.

  21. The way you arranged the towels is so pretty.

Having my cats to care for during this time has helped me stay sane (or a variation of). There may have been some days that I would have just chosen to stay in bed if they didn’t work on my Irish guilt.

  22. I just finished The Queen's Dilemma, Joanne it is brilliant. Also must order some towels from you.

  23. It's strange why the name Karen has now become a regular noun..."Karen is a pejorative term for someone perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is appropriate or necessary. A common stereotype is that of a white woman who uses her privilege to demand her own way at the expense of others."

I wonder what Joanne would mean if that name also became a term?

  24. You have woven so many beautiful towels! I love the way you have arranged them.

  25. Ive accepted the fact that at an one time I will be subscribing through Britbox, Acorn, or PBS master piece through my Amazon fire stick. Don't live it but it is what it is and it's not like I'm going to moves or unch or dinner or anything else, lol.

  26. I watch very little television, so little that it's mostly what I can watch on computer, a couple of hours a week, if that.

  27. Have you tried Yellowstone, Joanne? Someone also recommended The Queen's Gambit. I hope Karen has relieved you of your sales tax problem and you can cross it off of your list.

  28. Do you have Amazon prime? It's $11 a month, I think. Anyway, they have a lot of content. I'm watching Downtown Abbey in 20 minute stretches on the rowing machine, and we are watching Bosch (California police detective) after dinner. Bosch is REALLY good, but attention must be paid to the plot, it's very twisty.

  29. Recently, I watched Broadchurch on Netflix and thought it was very good. I'm almost done with Derry Girls (two seasons of six episodes each). It's very funny. I know what you mean about BritBox. I have various TV services, but it's BritBox that calls to me.

    Love,
    Janie

  30. How refreshing it is to contact a call centre and have them not only totally understand your problem but be able to fix it in a few minutes. Normally I expect some long rigmarole and someone who seems to have no idea what I'm talking about.

  31. Your cat is a character. I guess that's true of all cats. Yay for Karen! Alas, I,too, am getting sick of Netflix.

  32. Hello, Joanne! Good morning to you from the west coast of Floria where it's a little wild and very beautiful.

  33. Just watched "Wild Wild Country" a documentary series that is intriguing! Did not like "the Good Place" at all. Loved Broadchurch and Last Tango in Halifax. "Karen" of course her name would be "Karen".

  34. I wish more customer care people, government or private, would provide they name and some type of number. You know that "warning" that the call maybe recorded. I always wish they would and then send me a copy.
