  1. In the North, I find snow is preferable to rain at this time of the year.

  2. And our longest day was yesterday. I prefer your solstice.

  3. Those poor soggy plants. Can't you make them raincoats???

  4. I prefer to think of it as the longest night of the year... more time to sleep.

  5. It can only get better from now on, Yay.

  6. I did not see rain since August and I'm sure it will not rain here until May. My day is only five and half hour long but it's bright and sunny! Happy Winter!

  8. I have a count down calendar, not for Christmas but for the last long dark night of the year. From now on until June we can look forward to more sunshine. I'm super glad. And about your rain. Better than snow in that there is no shoveling required.

  9. The shortest day of the year, much shorter for you than for me. Even so, it was dark by 5:30 or so. Knowing the days are now going to get longer even tho we still have our coldest weather ahead, is a relief.

  10. I'm outrageously charmed by the combination of sentiment and visual in this post.

...not to mention the story you left in your comment on my blog re: baby bird children lined up for their shot of wihpped cream. I actually spurt a mouthful of whipped cream into my ten-year-old's mouth almost every day after school, when he's having "vanilla tea" or chai or cocoa.

  13. Yeah, the daylight will last longer, but we've still got three months of winter!

  14. Cute narrative and so true. I cannot believe you have no snow where you live. Is that normal for this time of year. Sorry no proper punctuation as I have done something (not sure what) to my keyboard.

    Merry Christmas!

  15. I love the two kales with raindrops on them, what is that dead flower head in the metal daisy? Is that a thistle head? It's quite striking. I wouldn't mind some of your rain out here, we're so dry.

    1. It's a miniature sunflower that Laura fastened in there. The seeds are eaten, but I'm sure the head will be there until spring.
